This site has been created as a gathering spot for ideas, announcements, and resources for those interested in building resilience on the Northern Bruce Peninsula. Following the plan laid out in Rob Hopkin's guide 'The Transition Handbook', we are a collection of interested citizens who are charting a course toward sustainable and joyful life with less oil.
A Transition Initiative is a community working together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye and address this BIG question:
"for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?"

After a discussion re bylaw revisions at the schhol I happened to pick up and begin to read “Tools for Conviviality ” by Ivan Illich. It struck me how relevant some of his ideas from 40 years ago are rlevant and prophetic regarding our present day perdicament. I then looked him up on wikipedia and found it even more interesting. Just a warning that teachers may be shocked or threatened by some of his ideas, however there was a particularly relevant tidbit under the “concepts category rlating to cars that I though might be of interest to those suggesting the reduction of automotive use. Hope you have fun if you explore this.
